How Does It Work?

Formerly known as ATX-101, Kybella is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring molecule deoxycholic acid, which is produced by the human body in our own intestines for the break down and absorption of dietary fats. This breakthrough treatment has been the focus of a global program involving over 20 clinical studies involving over 2,600 patients.

When Kybella is injected into the subcutaneous (beneath the skin) fat of the submental (under the neck) region, the membranes of the targeted fat cells are destroyed. Once destroyed, the cells are no longer able to store fat. The destruction of these cells is then followed by the body’s natural elimination and healing process. This process is slow but steady, and the fat cells are typically removed from the area within 4 to six weeks after receiving injections.
